Our little Crash
Jonah and I took a little trek running errands today. Afterwards, we were going to meet Kev at the house to go on a nice walk with Roxy. This being a first because, today, it was a record breaking 37 degrees out. Unfortunately, things didn't turn out quite how we wanted them to.
Our first destination was to Babies R Us for some baby soap, diapers and wipes. Instead of ending our day with our nice walk, we ended the day at Resurrection Medical Center where we met* some coughing babies with fevers, bloody bums with no shoes and a rambling man who cut his finger. In between, some "crazy" yuppie in his mini cooper decided to crash into my car. Turns out he was in a real hurry to get to that red light at Montrose and Central. He weaved around another car while I was making a left.(I was waved on--so not my fault--yuppie guy got a ticket.) Jonah slept through the entire accident. Some pot holes in the past have disturbed him more. Turns out the "crazy" yuppie has a son the same age as Jonah. I guess this made it easier for me to apologize (later) to him for saying (screaming) things like:
"you're so negligent" and
"oooooh you're in such a hurry you'll endanger the life of people around you" and
"you need to relax buddy and just breathe instead of driving like a maniac" and
"shame on you"
"where are your glasses? What are you blind?" (turns out his glasses flew off when he hit the light pole)
The paramedics arrived over by there right away and said things like:
"Oh he's so adorable."
"Oh, look at him sleeping, what a cutie!" and
"Good thing you have a car seat--you'd be surprised". (Plug: Graco Snugride.) They checked him out and said he was fine but being the paranoid new mommy, they said we should probably stop at the doctor or emergency room to have my little guy checked out.
Emergency Rooms are sad places. We made fast friends with other parents there. It's a fascinating little club you join when you have a baby. We met little 4 mos old Dylan who had a fever of 102 for the past 5 hours and little 10 mos old Patrick who had a nasty cough and a fever of 103 all day long. When we left the hospital a couple hours later, they were still there waiting and so concerned about Jonah. But our little man was just fine! Jonah laughed when the doctor poked at him and belted out some noises when she flashed that little mini flashlight in his eyes. That thing is pretty cool. I want one!
Emergency rooms are dirty, dirty places. I feel like that waiting room was more dangerous than the accident itself. Even the lady checking us in told us to give him a bath as soon as we got home. We did. We started to scrub our little guy and he decided to big potty in the tub. and I mean, big potty. Isn't it ironic? After the clean-up, we graduated Jonah from that baby sling in the tub and now he just sits in there and did he love it! He was splashing us, laughing. He just loves the tub...He even makes bubbles. Instead of every other day, I think we're gonna give him a bath everyday because he just loves it. I think his grandmas would like that too.
We still are kicking around nicknames for the little monster. Kev wants to call him Crash** now. It's sort of sticking. We had quite a little adventure today. Like the Chicago song, it's only the beginning.
*Met---we kept a very safe distance.
**"Crash"--Turns out back in the day, Carol got into an accident in a parking lot with Susie. Susie dropped her cigarette and burned the seat. Tuny called them Crash and Burn for years.
One more thing, I almost brought my camera with on our errands but decided against it...I learned my lesson.
